Journey to Freedom & Hope

On a general overview, the exterior wall is covered by origami cranes in a focused point to a scattering manner. That signifies, the cranes take flight from a common origin and spread out to different directions later on.

Materials used are obtained from newspapers and magazines and other paper sources. The randomness of the materials, in terms of color, graphics and textures, reflects a lot about the variations of characteristic and thoughts we have in each and everyone of us.

On another point of view, these birds reminds us of our journey along the design studies.

-Like the graphical crane, we think a lot about the colors and compositions and artistic approach on our work.

-Like the words in the newspaper, those are the research, and critical thinking that is involved in order to perfect our design.

-Like those bright colored cranes, those are the fun we had along the journey.

Some of you might be wondering, that is the trash bin doing there?
Somewhat an ugly sight, but metaphorically, i have 2 point of view on this element.

Primarily, it portrays the fine line of being the trash of society or to be people who contributes to the world As you can see, all the birds are flying away from the bin, and try to reach the light. That serves as an inspiration for us to distant ourselves away from the darkness, and reach for our hopes.Coincidentally, there is a keluar sign at our site, to further enhance it's meaning.
On a second thought, these paper cranes raises awareness to people about how much they are losing, by just throwing things into the bin without consideration. What have we been losing? and how much can we benefit from the things we once threw?

Looking into details, there are a few cranes which are exceptionally bigger in form with a few smaller ones, hovering around it. The smaller cranes  inherits the hue of the bigger ones with a symbolic meaning of the guide and influences that our lecturer has given, and inspire us to be great designers in the future. Also as a reminder to us, the seniors, to serve as an inspiration and good example to our juniors through our determination to produce distinctive design works.

Near the opening of the light sources, we had four gigantic origami crane suspended from the ceiling. These four are the largestt among all the origami's that were on the wall. The size and the birds suspending on air, is a representation of our full growth, and ready to fly to the outside world. Some of us, would go out to be well equipped and informative people (Cranes made of map) like the GPS cranes, and some would be flourishing with thier design flair (Cranes made of P1 poster),such as the purple crane, and some, would shine very brightly in the society, like the Golden crane.

These birds starts to scatter as they reach the exit, resembling how we would be, when we end our course within these 1 and a half months time. Everyone would head to different directions, achieving their dreams, some of which we might and might not meet again. As of how this journey started and ended, it was never as impactful as the process of the journey, the happy moments, and stress we shared together.Hereby i would like to express my gratitude, to be flying alongside, this big group of outstanding "cranes" :)

Thanks to this group of supportive people, who work alongside me to get this meaningful installation done:
Sarmilla, Janice, Jeah Yiing, Shek Yin, Andy,, Adeline, Yee Tze, Neena,Hsien Wen & Nana,Mei Zi,Zhi Xuan.

There is no way, all these could be done alone. I apologize if there are some small little cuts and bleeds in the heart during the discussion session, but im glad we worked this out fine. You guys are the most co-operative bunch i've ever worked with. Merci beaucoup!

P:s Ohya, we've just installed another enormous "human crane" in the window, come early tomorrow to see whether he is still suspending on air or not.
